Having tried numerous video editors for my Linux Mint install, I have finally settled down with Kdenlive – a non-linear video editor that can handle three video tracks and two audio tracks. You can use it to add video clips, audio clips and even static pictures/photos/images to your video project. You can set how long you want each image to last in your video.

Kdenlive supports DV, HDC and much more formats. these are the main features it has:

* Guides and marker for organizing timelines
* Copy and paste support for clips, effects and transitions
* Real time changes
* Firewire and Video4Linux capture
* Screen grabbing
* Exporting to any by FFMPEG supported format

The following are users’ reviews:

The_Smith (2011.09.17) – Very nice, lots of features. it has been able to open a corrupted file also, whereas avidemux could not.
yahtzeek9 (2011.08.24) – Most feature filled user-friendly video editor in linux. save frequently. still pretty unstable.
Kitwar (2011.08.04) – Very useful and satisfying
linuxali (2011.07.31) 555555555555555555555555***********************
mintlinux (2011.07.28) – I like the program, but i need the newer version.
panic42 (2011.07.24) – I still has some rough edges but gets the job done. good thing: it directly works with the source materiel not conversion needed.

My own rough edges are the following: (1) did not know how to remove the cut section of a clip – it turned out to be simply the “Delete” key and (2) did not know how to export the video – it turned out to be the red “Render” button on the top right corner!

I highly recommend it to every Linux user – if you know anything better than Kdenlive, then please post your favorite in the comment area below.

Calibre is primarily a ebook cataloging program. It manages your ebook collection for you. It is designed around the concept of the logical book, i.e. a single entry in the database that may correspond to ebooks in several formats. It also supports conversion from a dozen different ebook formats to LRF and EPUB. A graphical interface to the conversion software can be accessed easily by just clicking the “Convert E-books” button.

Supported input formats are: MOBI, LIT, PRC, EPUB, ODT, HTML, CBR, CBZ, RTF, TXT, PDF and LRS.

Calibre has a modular device driver design that makes adding support for different e-reader devices easy. At the moment, it has support for the SONY PRS 500/505/700 and the iPhone (with the stanza reader software). Syncing supports updating metadata on the device from metadata in the library and the creation of collections on the device based on the tags defined in the library view. If an book has more than one format available, calibre automatically chooses the best format when uploading to the device.

It works for Amazon Kindle and can convert most file formats to what Kindle accepts. It generates a much better Kindle document than MobiPocket Creator – the software that Amazon recommends.

Calibre has also a built-in ebook viewer that can display all the major ebook formats.

The following are descriptions that come with the application and users reviews:

Calibre Reviews:
Ottimo per il sony prs-650 ) voto 10!
lucianozeta (2011.08.23) It’s an almost perfectebook management tool. provides convertion and wireless access via the built in server.
mbernardi (2011.08.22) It keeps my pocketbook 603 organised
alberto_chaos (2011.07.18) Its too good
ali20 (2011.07.17) Ugly, but effective. it works with the amazon kindle.
jose_r (2011.07.08) The best app to manage your ebook.. and very good on all the os
larlequin (2011.07.01) Good programm. use it on linux and windows, also.
aaliseyko (2011.06.15) Works very well, easy to use, everything you need for your e-book library

If you simply need a small application to delete, merge a page or a few pages to your existing PDF files, then I would highly recommend a Linux application called PDFshuffler. It is extremely easy to use. You can import as many PDF files as you want for you to rearrange page order or even delete certain pages – no, you cannot edit texts or images on each page. Once you are satisfied, you simply export the final result as a new PDF file. So these are what PDFshuffler can do easily: insert other PDF pages to a particular PDF file, rearrange the order of pages of a particular PDF file, split a PDF file by deleting certain pages.

The following are descriptions that come with the application and users reviews:

PDFshuffler is a small application which allows to merge or split pdf documents and rotate, crop and rearrange their pages using an interactive and intuitive graphical interface.

The nice thing about it is that it allows me to set up as many email accounts as I want and each email account is separate from others and has its complete set of folders such as Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash, Outbox, etc for each account. Also I can create a custom folder within each folder if I want to.

The following are descriptions that come with the application and users reviews:

The Mozilla Thunderbird email client.

Reviews:
10/14/2010	TonyKZ1 Great email client
10/11/2010	Fuzzi99 Like all mozilla apps it’s going downhill with the memory hogging
10/11/2010	frankeinstein Easy to set up and use. has always been my favourite. love the themes and add-ons.
10/10/2010	m4daredsun My favorite e-mail client. simple & friendly
09/18/2010	emuse Simply the best email client! dont use it without lightning plugin, because that plugin is as good as thunderbird itself.
09/16/2010	linux1492 It’s the mail client i choosed to use after plenty of trying. certainly, there is space for improvements, e.g. import function for appointments from ms-office outview. if you are forced to use at work microsoft software, it would be nice to synchronize some of your data, such as appointments with the clients of different oss at home. since thunderbird is lightweight and works fine it is a real improvement for people who have a slow/instable internet connection (e.g. mobile internet in germany). why then not ‘awesome’ for thunderbird? it is not straight forward to set it up to connect to any possible provider. there are thinks to know (e.g. different ports) if you wish to use instead of a google mail account your webmail account from the local provider. it’s a jungle and there are no good man pages for thunderbird on this matter.
09/16/2010	dbpatankar Its good. but can’t use pgp without additional plugin(enigmail). i think this need to be fixed.
09/13/2010	ozos My favorite e-mail client. easy to use and works great.
09/13/2010	shwany Does a brilliant job.
